A Way To Help Your Family Look After You If You Have Dementia
Not many people think about the future. They plan the next holiday, write a shopping list for this week’s groceries and wonder they might be going on Saturday night, but they don’t really think beyond the next few days. There’s nothing wrong with this and it’s what most of us do. We’re so busy getting on with today and tomorrow that planning years ahead just isn’t high on the agenda. The problem is, it suddenly arrives – the future you thought you’d never have to worry about, and it can be an unpleasant shock for all concerned if all is not as rosy and wonderful as you thought it would be.
In my job I come across cases on a regular basis where happy and productive people who had everything going for them find that for some reason they just can’t cope anymore. They are diagnosed with an illness such as Alzheimer’s or Dementia, often with complications like incontinence, that means they can no longer cope with daily life and decisions in the way they always have. A chain of events then begins that will slowly unravel the life they thought they were going to have. The happy retirement, spending more time with the family, even finishing the career that has been worked on so hard for so long, it is all suddenly impossible as the person loses the ability to think and function for themselves. The person concerned then has to rely on help from family and healthcare workers, which requires time and commitment for all concerned. Ultimately, they person may need to go in to care.
Extended Family Members Love The Bidet
Recently a topic came up regarding the most vulnerable members of our society, namely our seniors and our children. With the normal hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we have a tendency to overlook some of the more obvious ways in which we can positively impact their lives. Just because they don’t typically mention personal hygiene or complain about related issues, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t greatly appreciate and benefit from associated technologies – specifically a bidet.
Sometimes, maintaining good health can be as simple as incorporating good personal hygiene habits into our lives. In today’s culture, manufacturers have addressed the need to control and eliminate environmental contaminants by introducing the regular use of hand sanitizers, disinfectant wipes, anti-bacterial cleaners and the like. All of which are good at what they do, but they are designed to deal with the issue of health threats after the fact. What about taking measures to prevent issues from arising? That’s where the bidet comes in.
What to Consider When You Choose 1st Aid Kits for Your Home
1st aid kits are essential for your safety and the one of your family. When you are looking for first aid in the home, you should take into consideration few things. The number of people, the ages, allergies and medical conditions are important to make the best choice for your 1st aid kit.
First, how many people live in the home? Depending on how many people live in the home you would need different sizes of 1st aid kits. For example, for one person you could easily use a kit with supplies for 2 people but for a family of 4 or more it would be way too small. You might also want a kit that can allow you to include extras. First aid bag are normally the best way to go for extra space.
Discussing The End Of Life With Seniors
Discussing end of life issues is one of the most important talks families can have together but for some it is the most difficult. Identifying how one wants to live their final days and leave this world does not have to be saved until the last days of life, nor should it be. How many of us really know when those days will be? Setting the example for our whole family, my parents had their personal wills and living wills drawn up when they were in their 60′s. We all knew their wishes and personal preferences. I had both of mine drawn up in my mid 30′s. These documents are not set in concrete, should be revisited periodically and may be amended as desired.
End of life discussions are not just about organ donation, ventilator support and feeding issues. They may include personal messages to special people, by whom you want to be surrounded, where you want to be as your life comes to a close, special hymns or music to be sung at funeral or memorial service, how you want your life to be celebrated, favorite organizations that are to be designated as memorial funds, and basic funeral arrangements. It is important that someone knows where and how the information has been recorded. Five Wishes is a wonderful workbook to guide these discussions and record your preferences. As difficult as end of life is on the surviving family members and friends, having these decisions made ahead of time assists them during this emotional period.
Using a Bidet Is the Number 1 Way To Improve Family Heath and Hygiene
For those who have never been exposed to them and do not know how to use them, bidets can appear to be odd and, for many people, something to be avoided. We’re here to say, “just relax”, they are quite simple to use. First, understand that their sole function is to enhance your personal hygiene routine and clean the body’s private parts after using the lavatory.
For many households, the bidet has been number one when it comes to maintaining good hygiene standards in the bathroom. Bidets are very similar to toilets, with the added benefit of having a separate water source which is strategically directed to provide effective washing following the use of the commode. The bidet is an excellent device for personal hygiene for the entire family. Read more
Hospice Services As a Wise Investment for You and Your Family
Many people ramble on the way they want to die instantly and painlessly but few people are preparing in case the opposite occurs. With medical statistics showing cancers and other painful illnesses on the rise, a person should now be thinking about getting appropriate late life care. In preparing for life’s eventual end, it’s wiser to think of getting proper hospice care to ensure that you and your family will get assistance as you face this difficulty.
Getting care
Many of us think that we could quietly and peacefully transition from this life to our death at home but in truth, this could be emotionally taxing to our families. Being gravely sick with a chance to recover is one thing, but being seriously ill without any cure is an entirely different matter. Read more
Getting Distant Family Members the Help They Need
In many instances, family members live far away from each other. If you have a relative that lives in another state, you know exactly how nerve-wracking it can be once that loved one starts getting up in age. Many families find this situation to be an extremely tense one; how do you provide care for a relative that lives far away? There are actually a few ways you can get your relative the supervision or help that they need, yet keep your own independence.
First, you should consider a periodic vacation to go to visit that relative’s home area. If they have the chance to see you on a yearly basis, there is more incentive for them to keep themselves healthy, and thus live a more fulfilling life while you are away. It also gives you the opportunity to assess their living situation. Perhaps they are starting to have trouble with the outside work, or they are neglecting the indoor maintenance. By seeing firsthand how things are going, you will give yourself better peace of mind, and you will also know when they are starting to need some sort of additional help. As you can see, your vacation to see your relative has an ulterior motive: you are checking up on their welfare and getting them the help they need when they need it. Read more
